UCMed Enhances Disaster Risk Management with Comprehensive Fire and Earthquake Drill
The University of Cebu Medical Center, Inc. (UCMed) took significant steps to its disaster risk management by conducting a fire and earthquake drill on July 19, 2024.
This initiative is part of UCMed’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its patients, staff, and visitors.
The activity commenced with a brief lecture led by the Bureau of Fire Protection Region 7 Mandaue City held at the 6th Floor UCMed Conference Hall.
The training provided essential knowledge on fire prevention and basic safety protocol in a fire emergency response to improve preparedness among individuals.
In the afternoon, the UCMed Incident Command Team, headed by Mr. Raymond L., Hospital Administrator and Incident Commander, Engr. Crisanto Matugas, Director of Hospital Support Services, participated in a simulated evacuation exercise. Together with the hospital fire marshal, the hospital fire brigade team, and selected employees and management.
After the evacuation drill, the employees were immersed in hands-on practice with fire extinguishers and hoses. Participants learned how to use these tools effectively to put out fires.
The fire and earthquake drill at UCMed concluded successfully, demonstrating the hospital’s readiness to handle potential emergencies.
Through regular training and collaboration with the Bureau of Fire Protection, UCMed demonstrates its dedication to maintaining a safe and healthcare facility for all.
